The Whispers ~ Chapter One

I’m not sure how much I really like this story, but it got really big on Wattpad so I figured this would be the story to start with! Sorry ahead of time if there’s any spelling errors and if they’re a bit long :p

At the age of eight, Harry Potter, the forgotten twin of Henry Potter, also known as the Boy-Who-Lived, ran away from his neglectful family. Eight years later, one year after the drastic events at the Triwizard Tournament, Dumbledore hires a group of people to protect the school along with the two Ministry appointed Aurors Sirius Black and James Potter. Surprising everyone, except for Dumbledore himself, in come the lost Potter and Malfoy heirs, along with the lost youngest Weasley and a Muggle-Born that had ran away from the school five years earlier. This year is sure to be a wild ride!

That was the description for the story that I posted on Wattpad! The actual chapter starts below <3

Henry Potter sat at the Gryffindor table with his best mate and his best mate’s girlfriend, patiently waiting for Headmaster Dumbledore to start his welcoming speech that he makes every year so he could finally eat. He was practically starving at this point. Ron Weasley and Lavender Brown were sitting across from him, both of them attached to each other’s faces like leeches, which absolutely disgusted Henry to no end. Although, he’d never voice that thought for fear of Lavender hexing him back to the Dark Ages.

Dumbledore stood up after the last first year went to sit at their new House table, clearing his throat and gathering the attention of most of the students with ease, including Ron and Lavenders; thank Merlin for that. Henry didn’t know how much longer he would’ve been able to take them trying to eat each other’s lips before the urge to vomit would become too strong to resist. Henry didn’t really pay attention to the speech, he had heard it for the last four years now after all, and it wasn’t until Dumbledore had started talking about last year’s events with the Triwizard’s Tournament that Henry’s attention was caught.

“After last year’s events with the Triwizard’s Tournament, the Ministry has taken matters into their own hands and they’ve provided Hogwarts with extra protection to ensure our students safety. They have given us two of their best Auror’s, James Potter and Sirius Black, so please welcome them both with open arms. Also, I have taken the liberty of hiring a group that is well-known for doing odd jobs, everyone please welcome The Whispers!”

Henry’s eyebrows had shot up at this news. Sure, he had known that his Father and Uncle would be here for extra protection, but he hadn’t known Dumbledore had thought the school to be in so much danger that they would hire an outside group as well.

Everyone watched in awe as four teens walked out, led by Professor McGonagall, and shuffled rather awkwardly onto the stage to stand next to Dumbledore, not at all looking like they were enjoying themselves.

“Now,” Dumbledore quickly continued, silencing whatever whispering had started. “I expect you to welcome them with open arms. They’ll be attending classes with you and you might even be rooming with them, should they get sorted into your House of course!”

The first girl to get the hat placed on her head was, no doubt, a Weasley, or at least related to them very closely. However, by the way Ron, Fred, and George had begun to gape as soon as they had laid eyes on the girl, told Henry that there was something more to the picture. The next was a boy with a sharp face and slick back hair that was a perfectly blonde and anyone who had ever seen Lucius Malfoy would know, undoubtedly, that this boy was related to him in more than one way. The boy that stood next to him knocked the breath out of Henry for a moment. He was undoubtedly related to him, Henry could just feel it. His hair was messy and wild just like James and his eyes were piercing green just like Lily’s, and, going by the opened-mouthed stare’s of both of his parents and Sirius, they recognized the boy too. The last of the group was a girl with bushy brown hair who looked some-what familiar, but Henry couldn’t place where he had seen her before, so Henry just pushed it aside.

As the Sorting Hat dropped over Ginny Weasley’s head, blocking her view from prying eyes of the students, she let out a breath of relief. She had been excited to take this job, no doubt, but her nerves have been eating away at her. She knew that three out of six of her older brothers still attended Hogwarts and that this was a huge risk for them all to go out and reveal themselves like this, but the pay was bigger than they had ever seen before and there was no way that they were going to turn it down. It’s not as though they were too worried about people coming after them once they knew their identities, nor would it be the first time they had shown their faces to someone before, but this was their families that they had left to live a life that her mother would have scolded her for had she even brought up the idea to her first.

“Dear,” a voice rang through Ginny’s head, causing her to jump harshly. “I apologize if I startled you, but you’ve got to let down your shields if I’m going to sort you.” The hat had spoken softly, already knowing the girl had would hex him if she thought he was a threat and he had been hexed before, it was not fun. Ginny was hesitant to do anything that the hat asked and, as if sensing her reluctance, the hat spoke again. “You have my word that whatever I find is between us alone. I don’t have the ability to share anything I see with anybody else.”

Ginny, reluctantly, let her shields fall just enough so the hat could get a grip of her personality. She had remembered when Harry had trained them in Occlumency, how he had told them to never lower their mind shields unless they were one hundred percent sure their secrets were safe. Ginny could say, confidently enough, that she didn’t know whether or not she could trust this hat. Suddenly, without any warning beforehand, the hat yelled out. “GRYFFINDOR!” Ginny jumped and the hat was pulled off her head as clapping started around her. Still, Ginny didn’t make any move to sit down as she had seen the first years do when they had watched from the side hall. There was no way she’d go until all of her friends had been sorted and they’d part together.

Next, the hat was placed on Draco’s head. You’d have to look closely and know him well to see it, but the boy was buzzing with excitement underneath his perfectly cool mask. He had already known that the hat would talk to him, and therefore he assumed it’d need to see into his mind, judging by Ginny’s reaction anyway. So, he already had memories pulled to the surface that the hat could access easily enough and it didn’t take long for the hat to come to a decision. “SLYTHERIN!” It yelled, causing Draco to inwardly flinch at the loudness of it.

Harry had been the only one out of the four of them to really really not want to go on this job. He had been the one to start the group, therefore he had the right to decline it, but eventually gave in to his friends pleading. He knew that both of his parents, his Godfather, and his twin brother Henry, the famous Boy-Who-Lived, would be at Hogwarts, although he wasn’t sure if they’d even recognize him. Not to mention that Harry had a burning hate for Albus Dumbledore after what the man had done to him.

“Ah, so you’re the leader then, eh?” The hat inquired and Harry had been startled to say the least, although he hadn’t shown it in the slightest. “Well, I suppose you’ll do perfectly fine in any of the Houses But you can’t be away from him, can you? Well, then I suppose it has to be… SLYTHERIN!” The hat shouted and Harry immediately withdrew the memories he had let the hat see back inside the safety of his shields. He vaguely caught Draco glance at him, and he had to forcefully fight the smirk that was forming on his lips. He knew that the boy was secretly hoping that they would be in the same house, and he’s no doubt going to jump him later on for it–when they’re away from prying eyes, of course.

The last, but not least, was Hermione. Once the hat had slid down over her eyes, Harry knew that this could either be the shortest sorting of his life or the longest. No doubt the girl was going to inquire about everything she could before the hat decided he was done with her fruitless questions. Not that that’d do much to stop her from trying to question it some more anyways, and no doubt question the others to see if they had found out anything she hadn’t later on.

“I have sorted you before,” the Sorting Hat remarked and Hermione grimaced at the memories that it brought up.

Who are you? She inquired back, letting the thought rise to the surface where the hat could read it. She had never gotten to question the hat the last time around, having been brand new to the Wizarding World and still in awe of everything.

The hat let out a soft hum before answering. “I do not have a set name, child, I am the Sorting Hat. Created by the founders Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin. Now if you’d kindly–” the hat had started to ask her to put down her shields, but Hermione had cut him off with another question.

How did they create you? I’ve certainly never heard of another hat of your kind before, and I’ve read nearly everything about the Wizarding World since I’ve came to live in it. Although, I could’ve skimmed over something, I suppose. It’s unlikely though, Hermione thought and the hat laughed slightly. He had never had a student inquire about where he was made before unless they had been put in Ravenclaw. He had no clue how he had put this girl Gryffindor the first time he sorted her.

“I was created with magic,” the hat responded and before Hermione could think of anymore questions, the hat had already shouted out her house. “RAVENCLAW!” Then, the hat was gone before she could actually ask another question which left her disappointed, to say the least. She would have liked to know what kind of magic it was. It wasn’t a kind she had seen before, or maybe it was something she had seen before and she simply didn’t remember.

As soon as all four students had gotten their House placement and their robes had changed to support their House crest and House colors, they quickly glanced at one another before they parted, agreeing to meet with each other later on in the Room of Requirements in the seventh floor corridor.

Hermione had gone and sat as the first open spot at the Ravenclaw table she had seen and was immediately questioned by her Housemates, questions she was happy to answer as long as she deemed them harmless.

Ginny had taken a seat at the end of the Gryffindor table, but was immediately joined by the Twins, who had simply stared at her for a long moment before hugging her tightly and asking what had happened. When she hadn’t given them much information and promptly told them she wasn’t going to talk about it, they had let it go easy enough.

Lastly, Draco and Harry both sat and the Slytherin table talking quietly amongst themselves. Almost as soon as the food had appeared before them, Draco and Harry found themselves being questioned by a pug-faced, chubby girl that was most likely in their year.

“Pansy Parkinson.” She introduced, batting her eyelashes at them both, cutting off their quiet chat between themselves that only they could hear. “What’s your name’s?” She questioned again after both boys had simply stared at her.

After a moment or two of making the girl squirm in her seat, her face flushed at the silence of the two boys, Draco decided to speak for both him and Harry. “I’m Draco and this is Harry.” He didn’t take the hand that the girl had offered for him to shake and she quickly retracted in back to her side.

“It’s nice to meet you both!” She chirped. “You both must be powerful if Dumbledore’s gone and hired you,” her tone quickly went from slightly nervous and pompous to dreamy, her eyes shamelessly tracing down Draco’s torso and the boy had to repress a shiver of disgust. Harry sharply glared at the girl as he scooted closer to the blonde, wrapping an arm around Draco’s waist and making sure there was no space between them.

“I would appreciate it if you didn’t stare shamelessly at my boyfriend,” Harry paused for a moment, looking the girl over. “I thought Purebloods were supposed to have class?” Harry’s tone wasn’t harsh when he spoke, but his words held power. The way that his eyes seemed to pierce through her entire being, right to her magical core, making her squirm slightly. Pansy sat up a little straighter as she tried to regain some of the supposed ‘class’ that she had, although after a few more moments of the boy’s unblinking gaze resting on her, she reluctantly mumbled out apologies.

A boy that was seated next to her laughed as he watched the scene unfold in front of him. “Geeze Pans, never thought you’d apologize to anyone!” He joked, earning a glare and a sharp jab from the girl in question before she went back to picking at her food. Harry and Draco turned their focus on the boy and, upon seeing this, he grinned lazily at the pair. “Blaise Zabini, nice to see something different around here every once in awhile. Merlin knows that the castle’s gone dull, even with Golden Boy over there kicking up a storm every year.” Blaise’s head jerked behind them towards the Gryffindor table to where Henry Potter was staring directly at Harry.

Harry had known the boy had been staring at him for quite some time, but he had chosen to ignore it. As soon as he looked up, however, their gazes locked and Harry raised an eyebrow. The boy flushed at having been caught and quickly looked away from him and back towards the two people sitting across from him who had been feeding each other since the food came out. Draco’s hand found Harry’s under the table and Harry was grateful that Draco knew exactly how to comfort him.

“So, what classes are you guys taking?” Blaise inquired after a moment of silence, choosing to ignore the look that the other two had shared with each other as he shoved a spoon full of peas into his mouth.

“The Headmaster decided on our classes, but I’m sure they’ll suffice,” Draco responded, finally serving himself some food. Blaise watched from his seat as Harry subtly raised his hand and mumbled something before a short blast of violet light shot out of his hand and he nodded towards the blonde. Quickly, Draco began to eat.

Blaise’s mouth hung open as he realized what the boy had just done. “Did you just-” he started, but he caught sight Harry’s glare and his mouth quickly snapped shut.

“If you must know,” Harry spoke, still glaring at the boy. “Yes, it was, and if you tell anyone of what you just saw, you will most certainly die a very painful and horrifying death. It would not be wise of you, to say the least.”

Pansy, who hadn’t seen the display of wandless magic that Harry had performed, looked between the boys very confused. Blaise, however, meekly nodded and went back to his food. He knew why Pansy had been so intimidated before. Looking into Harry’s eyes was like looking into the killing curse itself, almost as though he could pierce your soul with a simple glance and see all of your darkest secrets. And, in that moment, Blaise didn’t doubt for a second that he could if he really wanted to.

____

Lily and James Potter had simply been astounded when the group had made an appearance, for they both had noted how the boy–Harry, although they didn’t quite know that was his name yet–looked exactly like James, except for his green eyes that perfectly matched Lily’s. They were still looking at him while he sat down at the Slytherin table with more grace than either of them had been able to master, and they had watched him talk to two of the other Slytherin’s that were, no doubt, in his year. They didn’t miss the way Harry had wrapped his arm around the blonde boy that was obviously the lost Malfoy heir, and they didn’t miss how the two students had shrunk under the boys stare. What they had done to warrant such a look? Neither of them could tell due to the noise of the hall and how far away they were, but they were beyond curious to know.

Lily, having been the Potion’s instructor for a few days now (filling in for Professor Snape while he was away on some Order business), recognized the students as Blaise Zabini and Pansy Parkinson. Both were excellent in their classes, but Lily knew that Pansy was a horrible gossip and that both were known for sleeping around quite often, even though they claimed to be in a relationship when confronted.

Harry, of course, could feel his biological parents gaze on him for the whole time, and had almost let out a breath of relief when the feast had ended finally. It was short-lived, however, because James Potter had immediately caught up with him and pulled him, and subsequently Draco, away from the rest of the Slytherin’s heading down to the dungeons. Lily had to go to a meeting right after, but Sirius quickly caught up with James as well. Harry had to admit that he was tempted to hex his parent right then and there, but Draco’s hand in his own was the only thing that really stopped him from acting, knowing that it wouldn’t be a very good idea in the long run.

They stood looking at each other for a long moment before Harry got impatient with that man and decided to speak first. “Is there a reason you pulled me away from the rest of my year, or are you just trying to waste my time so I don’t know where I’m going?” Harry drawled, careful to keep his tone neutral as he spoke.

James blanked for moment, studying the son that he had lost years ago, and his eyes fell on his and Draco’s intertwined hands, but he forced himself to brush it off for the moment. “Harry?” He found himself saying, the lump in his throat that had formed only growing as he tried to swallow it.

“Yes?” Harry snapped back, and this seemed to break James out of his trace, and Sirius who had been staring at Harry as though he had seen a ghost.

“It’s been a long time, Pup,” Sirius finally spoke and, for a moment only, Harry’s gaze seemed to soften slightly as his eyes laid on Sirius. Then he was back to looking at them both with a hard gaze before either of the men noticed his slip up. Draco, however, did and he moved closer to Harry, his shoulder pressing into Harry’s gently, if only to let the other know he was here for him.

“Yes it has. Now, if that’s all, I’ll be taking my leave.” Then, Harry had began pulling Draco along, towards the dungeons. Of course, their House was already gone, but it didn’t matter. They had both already memorized the castle grounds and they had been informed of the password before they were sorted.

“Wait!” James suddenly called, and Harry turned back around. “Why did you leave?” He questioned hoarsely and, for a moment, Harry wanted to believe that he actually cared about him. As quickly as the thought came it was gone.

“The real question, James, is when did I leave? If you can answer that then maybe I’ll consider telling you why,” Harry responded evenly, and then he turned around and he and Draco were gone, down the dungeon steps and out of sight.

James realized in horror, that he couldn’t answer that question. Him and Lily hadn’t realized Harry had gone anywhere until their House Elf, Tully, had informed them that he had stopped requesting meals in his room. When they had gone up there to see what was happening, his room was empty except for the furniture, bare of all signs of life.
