This is me 2.5 hours into a fabulous trail ride straight from my doorstep….
…I was stopped for lunch, 2.5 hours into my ride yesterday, and it was bloody cold!
I headed out at 09h40 with the sun still rising over the frosty countryside. What a perfect start to a very long day.
My route would take me on an 80km epic linking my favourite trails from my home, through the Forest of Brette Les Pins and onwards to the Forest of Berce before returning finish the trail I had started out on. During the day I would see deer, birds of prey and woodpeckers; I would enjoy fast gravel grinding on forestry tracks, steep climbing and swooping technical single-track. Thrown in, just for good measure, there was even a river fording!
I had some criteria that the route had to meet. I wanted it to be long and difficult and it had to be a loop. I didn’t want it to cross over anywhere as I really needed to feel like I’d been somewhere!
When I finally arrived home at 16h40 I was exhausted. I had stopped only twice all day; once for lunch and again for ‘afternoon tea.’ During the day I’d managed to navigate sections where waymarkers had disappeared.
I’d ridden the best singletrack trails in the area, by far. I’d over come some of the steepest climbs I could have dreamt (had nightmares) of. I’d ridden in deep forest, on open plains and through farming-land. I was plastered in mud, sand and leaves. I was happy; grinning from ear to ear.
I was already planning my next ride…..
