Eagle vs Shark (2007) is a romantic-comedy and the debut the feature film from Taika Waititi. Lily, a fast food employee, has a crush on Jarrod, who works at the video game store in the same mall. They hook up at his “Animal Party,” in which guests come dressed as their favorite animal and play a tournament of the game “Fighter Man.” Now dating, Lily goes with Jarrod to his hometown and meets his family while Jarrod prepares to fight his childhood bully.

This is a cute and funny movie that is just not that memorable. There were a lot of quirky rom-coms like this in the early 00s and Eagle vs Shark doesn’t really stand out. It’s basically about a woman helping a man through his emotional trauma despite the fact that he’s a jerk to her. That’s not a plot that I can really dig into.
