@ijustreallywantgoodgrades you definitely have one of the weirder stories here… hope you like

“I bought 50 pounds of pineapples.”

“um…” I stared at them. Then at the truck behind them. Then back to them. I blinked. Surely I had misheard them. “uh… why?”

“The textbook told me to.”

I’m not any less confused. I rub my forehead, swiping another frizzy curl to the side. I take a moment. Their face is so innocent. Like they have no idea of the strangeness of what they just said. “Ok.” I whispered. “What textbook?”

“The maths one. My name was right there in the question. It was fate.”

Well, I think to myself, regardless of why precisely they brought 50 pounds of pineapples, they did and now… what the hell do I do with them? I mean…

“Wait.” my eyes widened. “You don’t even like pineapples. Wha-?”

“That’s irrelevant. It told me to buy pineapples so I did. What comes after is not my problem.”

“So it’s mine now?” I gasp incredulously. They shrug. “It has to be someone’s. You were the first one I thought of. You know,” they add after a moment of thought, “pineapples used to be a sign of riches.” They nod in a very pleased manner. As if that solves everything.

It doesn’t. Just in case you wanted to know. But.

Pineapples. “Fine, bring them in.”

“oh, i’m not bringing them in. I was told to buy them. Nothing else.”

They know something else. I’m sure of it. But what?

Belgian Tepache

  • 5 gal water
  • 5 large pineapples
  • 3 lbs brown sugar
  • 2 oz Golden Nugget
  • Safbrew S-33 (washed Belgian from previous cider batch)
  • Yeast nutrient

Prepare pineapples by removing tops. Cut into 1-2" chunks (rind, core, all of it) and save 1 piece for yeast starter. Heat ¼ cup water, pineapple piece, and 1 tbsp brown sugar in jar to 140°F. Allow it to cool to 70°F, then add yeast and cover. Heat 5 gallons water to 154°F. Mash pineapple chunks for 60 minutes with 1 lb brown sugar. While draining wort from mash tun into boil pot, press remaining rind/mash through cheesecloth and add to wort as well. Bring to boil. Add 2 lbs brown sugar and 2 oz Golden Nugget hops. Cool to 68°F, pitch yeast, and add nutrient. Tuck away and ferment for 10-14 days before bottling.
