Offerings to Wadjet🐍☀️

Em Hotep (in peace)!

I am making this post in multiple places, but I want to just make something clear. This is My Own experience with Wadjet. I do not want anyone to think this is an exhaustive list. That being said, have fun, and enjoy your offerings to the Cobra Goddess Wadjet!

——————————————————

Offerings to Wadjet  🐍☀️

Wadjet is the Egyptian Goddess of Lower Egypt, protector of Kings, goddess of Justice, Time, and Childbirth. She is also called “Uraeus”. She’s been seen depicted as a Snake-Headed woman (sometimes with two snake heads), sometimes as a Winged Snake with a Woman’s head, a Cobra with the Deshret(red) crown, or Cobra upon the crown of Pharaoh. She is paired often with the Protector of Upper-Egypt, Nekhbet, thus they are dubbed “The Two Ladies”, sometimes compared as the twins, or two sisters. It is said the Papyrus emerged from Her body, She is associated heavily with the plant and the planet Earth because of that. She is also associated with an interpretation of the Milky Way and is in some myths known as the “Primordial Snake”.

“It is said that Wadjet is the daughter of Atum, the first god of the Universe. He created Her as His Eye. Her purpose was to search the Universe for his lost children, Tefnut and Shu. Wadjet found his children, and Atum was so happy to see them that he cried. It is those tears made the first humans. As a reward, Atum placed Wadjet upon his head in the form of a fire breathing Cobra, Protector of Pharaoh.”

In another Myth, Wadjet is the one who shielded Aset (Isis) for the birth of Heru (Horus) in the Swamps of the Nile Delta when She fled for Her safety.

Sekhety

Summary: Since I found very little information on the initial word, I decided to give a more theistic take on the term that’s put into a modern context of gender than what was originally given for other kemetics to use if they find the identity fits them.

Re-interpretation: Sekhet, sekhyt, or sekhety is an identity used to describe not being exclusively a man or woman, moreso the ‘gender’ of the Netjeru; or the lack of a definable one in a divine essence. What this means, though, is the true nature of the Netjeru is mysterious, and though Their representations can align along binary standards, Their existence within itself is something beyond what can be put into a definition of binary gender.

It is not a static identity, and can be a combination of a myriad of different things; femininity, masculinity, androgyny, anything in between; undefinable by words, and can be a specific state of being for a person and remain as such for years, even for a lifetime; or can wildly fluctuate on a day-to-day basis.

Symbols & Meanings:

-Shen ring: Eternal protection.

-Orangish gold: The color of the reeds in Aaru, resembling freedom, sentimentality and sincerity.

-Gold: Unity, love & the embracing warmth of the sun.

-White: Purity, indefinability.

-Lapis lazuli: The Netjeru and the connection to Them, divinity, and spirituality.

-Blue: The primordial waters of Nu and the fluidity of its’ nature. The mysterious infinity that which all is created from. Larger than the other stripes to symbolize the eternal expanse of the water.

Pronouns: Any pronouns are associated with this term, but if none in particular fit oneself, a set with both ritual use and casual use has been made for the sake of modern convenience. Both stem from the origin of “nen” which is negation, null, separate from what is defined, and can be used both as a suffix -nn(not to be confused with the plural demonstrative) or the independent pronouns respectively.

Religious:

mntnn/ntnn/pꜣy.nn/r ḥꜥt.nn

Casual:

Neii*/Nem/Ner**/Nenef

*The eii in neii is pronounced “eye”

**The er in ner is pronounced “air”

History: Sekhety is written as many different things by scholars; it was originally a word first found on an inscription on a shard of pottery describing the three genders, man, woman, and sekhety. It basically means someone who doesn’t exclusively fit on the societal binary of sexuality and gender(though this is a simplification of the sources), some guesses of the more specific definition being intersex people, gay people, and so on and so forth.

Offering formula for consumed items

Most of the time, I personally don’t have the luxury of leaving food solely dedicated for Them, so I have created an offering recitation for anyone who would also like to use it. After speaking this aloud or within the mind, feel free to eat the offering alongside Them.

To [name(s) of Netjer(u)] I praise,

May this offering of [food/drink item] nourish You for days.

My taste is your taste,

My belly is as filled as Yours,

May this nourishment cleanse Your mind and body,

Just as it had done for mine.

A tangent

I’m bipolar and prone to depression. Caught some sort of virus. It’s the little things like cytokines that bring me down. Triggered the end of joy. Lost my routine. Haunted by fever. I begin to believe I don’t have a choice.

But that’s not true. I can decide to direct my mind to the things for which I’m glad. I cradled depression like a long lost child. I chose, and now I’m choosing what’s right and good. Gratitude. Meditation. Smiling. Making offerings. Prayer. I sing a song in idle praise of my Netjer. I choose.

AA taught me a valuable lesson, and it is this: you can start your day over at any time. Start your week over; your year; your life, right now. What are you waiting for? Today I choose not to be a victim. My life is the result of the choices I’ve made. It’s about perception. This world does nothing to you, the Gods do not punish you. Everything you experience was custom made for your soul to learn and grow. It’s all done for you, out of love. You are strong. You choose. Today I decide to continue on. The urge to give up comes and goes, but my choices linger forever.
