Continuing the strong commitment to Dynamics NAV

From the recent Statement of direction for Dynamics NAV Satya Nadella has said that “We will reinvent Productivity to Empower Every Person and Every Organization on the planet to Do More and Achieve More.”
Satya Nadella
CEO, Microsoft Corporation

Fantastic to hear that from the top of Microsoft…

Every day spent providing reports is a day less spent on analysis and shaping the future.

In a changing environment, adapting to change is critical. For a business that means making fast, confident decisions.

To do this a business need to know why they are changing and how they can monitor the results of that change. This needs information. Typically in the way of reports.

When things change you often need to ask new questions. However, existing reports answer existing questions, so now you need to get new reports. And so begins the time consuming part of trying to get these new reports created…especially for SME’s who often have not got Business Intelligence (BI) systems in place.

When systems are not joined up, have inaccessible data files or a database that is hard to fathom out; businesses default to Microsoft Excel or Access databases to get a quick fix or ‘workaround’. Using people to update data in un-validated cells is probably fine for a while, but eventually these workarounds become the business process. Then we forget how time consuming these tasks are as they become a normal part of the job.

However, Excel is best used when it is getting data from validated sources - like a well structures database. Now when you have a new question you use Excel to get the right data (fields) from your database. And then use the power of Excel to turn that long list of data in meaningful information. i.e. the answer to your question.

Now you can simply press 'Refresh’ in Excel to get an updated answer - no more time consuming manual updates of data - just easy access to the answer and the ability to readily ask new questions.

Many business take days compiling their data and then spend time double checking & reconciling it to ensure it is correct (and they have the correct version open). Spending minutes refreshing data and the rest of the time analysing what that data means for your business is much more productive…and makes you much more agile.
