Adding to the theme of Hip + Shoulder + Core, we move into a more advanced move that requires rotation.
Not only are you engaging the hip, glutes, abs and obliques but you must be able to do so and still rotate.
This is a great dynamic tension move I’d you’re feeling a bit stiff from sitting or moving in a sagital often.
The bosu isnt neccessary but I find it easier for my clients to get into positions the normally wouldnt be able to because of their ankle and calve flexibility. That way they can feel where they are in space a little faster.
Give this one a try and see how you feel!

One-Arm…Dead Hang 💪🏽Progress 📈



Just about a year into this physical journey and I can finally single arm hang on the thinner, much less forgiving, bars of the train. In this journey I’ve shed all preconceived notions of what “strength” really is. Sure a pull-up would’ve yielded some muscular size gains, but I’m much more concerned with developing elastic, resilient tissues that can go to, and hold an absolute maximum range movement with ease and incredible functionality. What do you guys do to ground yourself?
Being grounded means you are present in your life, and not worried about the past or future. It means your energy is planted firmly in your body instead of drifting off. Being grounded means you have stability, security, and control over your life. So I make time to lift because lifting grounds me (like meditation does) When I lift and teach others how, it takes you to the moment of breathing through every repetition, and making the mind-muscle connection of feeling and making every muscle. When you can feel your muscles contract through your breathe and effort for each repetition, you are present and yes the repercussions are amazing to then shape, sculpt and make both your mind and body strong! Last nights quick lift was a little back, chest and core. Do your knees knees give you discomfort/ache? It is possible that it due to tight muscles surrounding your knee and not the actual knee itself. Try this mobility drill, it may be a simple way to relieve some of that discomfort.⠀

Try using a lacrosse ball or softball on the front of your knee. .⠀

I absolutely love this drill. I practise it a few times a week myself and include it in class when it’s relevant. It’s a great way to train the end range of the joint as you lower down and it also highlights where there is weakness in some of the muscles in and around the hip.
-
It’s the same feeling as lowering into a pistol squat and realising that you drop into the bottom section as there’s not the strength there yet to lower with control.
-
As well as being pretty tough, it teaches you to be aware of how everything in your body is inter-connected and how much strength it requires to lower down into those end range positions without simply dumping weight into the sit bones and landing on the floor with a crash. I often teach it with a block or a weight in the hands but here I’m just using my fists and tensing everything in my body as I move through the sequence.

Lastly, it tends to always brings a smile and a laugh to students, which is massively important to me as it breaks the serious-ness of striving to get somewhere and opens up into more of an exploration of where the body is currently at.

The class with @yondere17 is starting from Sunday 09th December and is going to focus on mobility, joint prep and free-flowing movement. It’s aimed at climbers but also anyone else who is looking for a bit more fluidity within their movement practise. It should help build strength at a deeper level within the body and we’ll be exploring different modalities such as MovNat, Animal Flow and some Fighting Monkey inspired partner-based work.

When we look to release the tension on our neck, we look 👀 to blame and stretch the villainous Upper Trapezius and the Levator Scapulae! However, tightness indicates that these muscles are in a holding pattern that must be yanked open!⠀

Try this Self-Assessment and Active Scapular Mobility Drill! Activate and exercise your Upper Trapezius and Levator Scapulae! They like to be worked out 💪!⠀

If you do this drill and your shoulders burn quickly, your Traps and Levator aren’t Tight…they are underutilized and stiff!! Get those Scapular muscle moving! ⠀
