Amoy Antunet @amoy.antunet got hooked on science at the age of 3 after coming across a microscope owned by her father, who was a college student. The young whiz kid from Atlanta soon became her father’s “study buddy.” Davin Shepherd, who was then 43, began explaining everything he was learning during his biology classes to his daughter.
_
Subsequently, the 2nd grader began experiments from a lab in her bedroom with a collection of test tubes, replica organs, microscopes, & chemicals she built for herself.
_
By the age 5, she had started appearing on the internet with her dad, conducting experiments and giving lessons from the lab. Donning a white lab coat, Amoy dissects mind-boggling topics including cell division, the heart, pH testing and her favorite – the brain. At the moment, her explainer videos on her Facebook page, Science For Children with Amoy Antunet, have over a million views.

_

Antunet, who also loves math and gymnastics, said she makes her videos because she wants to “help people understand different types of science.

_

When I was a little girl I said I wanted to be a pharmacist but now I want to be a neurosurgeon who helps people with neurological disorders.

_

Antunet, who was invited to the University of Alabama’s Neuroscience Lab, has also appeared on CNN, the BBC and other major media outlets as well as conferences where she has spoken on Alzheimer’s. She was recently a keynote speaker at a Youth Innovation Summit that helps students get more interested in the STEAM and the STEM programs.

Johnathon Hines @swooshmoneyhines knows the dedication and passion it takes to be a teacher. He knows how difficult it can be to come into a classroom every day and inspire young minds.

He also knows how rewarding it can be when he does inspire. And, now, he’s inspiring not just through his teaching, but as a trailblazer.

Sisters Mia (9) and Mya (4) started their soap making business, Mia Rose Soaps @miarosesoaps and hope to inspire others during their entrepreneurial journey.

The idea got started a couple of years ago when Mia, who was 7 at the time, realized she wanted to make her own money. Their proud mom, who also home schools them, shared how it all began. “We started off just for fun selling to our neighbors and family, they loved the idea.” she stated.
The momentum picked up from there. Since that time, they have won awards at school and Mia even had a chance to give her first speech. She spoke in front of 500 young children and adults. She shared about her business and encouraged others to find something they enjoy so they too could do the same.
The sisters are not all work and no play as they also enjoy yoga and gymnastics. Their goal in 2020 is to write their first children’s book. It’s already in the works and it will focus on empowering others and encouraging them to explore the exciting world of being a young entrepreneur.

Swiss knife runner ups pt2

oblmaGreetings friends! For the second part of the commentary, I decided to group some cards again to discuss some common mistakes and also to ask your opinion about some “design space stretching” suggested by a couple entries.

image
image

Starting off with two Izzet Equipment from @dimestoretajic and @dont-wanna-wanga. Like in pt1 with the @starch255 Stone Mask, the submitted equipments have abilities that can be utilized without being attached to a creature. Both cards are really strong and Izzet-y but I think utility should come with a greater cost. So the first question of today is “Do you think we could have equipment that have uses without being equipped to creatures?”

image

image

Next up, we visit a trio of designs created by @mardu-lesbian, @rosencrypt and @macaroni-and-squeez. Their common element is that they can be attached to an opponent’s creature, which is new territory for equipment. So again I would like to know how do you feel about this direction. On to the design themselves..

Cumbersome Shield has excellent flavor and I love the fact that the “attach to an opponent’s creature” ability is colored!

Lich’s Ring can only be attached to an opponent’s creature once, but the trade off is really thematic and interesting!

Hot Potato is… a hot potato and there’s nothing more I can ask for! The execution of the idea is hilarious, and it incorporates the element of switching users very nicely!

image

@fractured-infinity surprised me here with what I feel is a parasitic planeswalker that becomes an equipment! Would definitely be interested to read their backstory! The design is very unique and powerful but to utilize it, you need to have an attacker each turn so it balances things out.

image

@i-am-the-one-who-wololoes Warbringer is a very busy design. I like the fact that you turned the challenge on its ear and made a design that does involve choices, but in a way, it is the opponent that makes them.

image

@nine-effing-hells Quicksilver Skin fits the contest perfectly. It gives the player a variety of choices and it feels like it belongs to the morphling cycle. My only issue with it is that it doesn’t have any immediate impact the turn you play/ equip it.

image

@theobligatorysql‘s Duplicator uses the energy mechanic, and that can certainly give the player a lot of choices, but the card itself is very restricted. Maybe more energy counters would be a good start.

image

Ending, we have @yoshifawful64 with a double faced design with controlled transformation. Surely a neat way to tackle the challenge of making an equipment that offers choices! Well played!
