Consignment Finds: Queen Boys 70’s/80’s

*A series of posts to inspire fellow Queenies that would like to attempt recreating some of their outfits over the years.*

First off, let’s start with everyone’s favourite bassist, John Richard Deacon, born on August 15th, 1951.

There’s just something about this sweater that echoes Deaky to me. Perhaps it’s the pattern or it gives off a grandparent’s cardigan vibe. This could go well with a pair of cordoroy pants, a white button up long sleeved shirt, and for a little modern twist, a pair of Blundstones could go with the outfit.

Next, Brian May and Deaky (again)

Now these….scream Brian and Deaky in volumes that made my ears bleed. They have a fun print and a bright colour to it, they are bell bottoms which is a spot on trend from the 70’s, and we all know by now that the Queen boys sure do love ‘em some floral in their wardrobe when it comes to sharing each other’s clothes ;) If wearing either of these, they could go easily well with a vintage peasant blouse with no patterns or a casual shirt with a minimal design that doesn’t overshadow the pants, and perhaps clogs could go with these.

Next, Roger Meddows Taylor

When I saw this coat, the colours and the feel of the fabric caught my eyes right away as I was thinking of the iconic floral jacket Freddie and Roger shared. I was reading something earlier today about Roger’s choice in clothes had in common was the feel of the material clothes are made in, such as velvet, cordoroy, leather, etc. The jacket is perfect since what I noticed right away was that the material is in fact, cordoroy, a must have for anyone going vintage with the 70’s/80’s decade. I would wear this along with a glittery gold or silver crop top, with high waisted black pants, and don’t forget the clogs!

I didn’t find anything in my browse that gave me signs of something familiar to what Freddie wore. I did find some lovely long kimonos in other stores, but they don’t count here since this is consignment/thrift only.

Hope reading this has been helpful to all of you beautiful Queenies that want to give consignment a try!

One (Wo)man’s Trash…

I’ve been selling on eBay for ages now and I can’t rave enough about it. It’s a zero waster’s paradise… you can buy all kinds of cool, vintage things or you can sell your own previously loved items for some extra spending money. Either way, you’re being triumphantly zero waste by funneling items that could otherwise end up in the trash away from the landfill and into the hands of someone who will appreciate their new treasures.

I just picked up this awesome cassette tape collection which someone was just going to throw away and I’ve had such a hoot looking through it before listing it on eBay. It’s not a get rich quick scheme, but it is a fun one and may just fund your next shopping spree (or vacation!)

(Or donate your unused goods to local thrift shops and charities! They’ll put it to good use and you’ve effectively reduced your footprint by recycling.)
